Hunting, Fishing: Decorative Decoys & Carvings

These two fine decoys are beautifully carved and painted by this talented husband and wife team. The first is a Fine Spotted Snake River cutthroat and the second a rare Apache trout. $150 each.

This carver has been producing award winning decoys since 1977. This beautiful bird is in excellent original condition. It is fully rigged with leather loop and polished lead pad for weight. 16.5 inches

This fine Arctic char carving is by Alaskan carver Michael Scott who has worked with whale bone, wood and other media over his long career. This lovely char is 20 inches from tail to snout and nicely mounted for display. It is quite a stunning piece and reminds me each time I see it of a day in Iceland catching many similar Char with one of my sons.

This full sized running curlew is one of my favorite of Kirby’s creations. It is finely painted and as a bonus Ken has made the bill detachable for shipping or storage. It has a sturdy driftwood base and displays wonderfully.. Signed and dated.

A beautiful carving by award winning fish decoy artist Paul McNeal of MN. The 10.5 inch trout is mounted on a 13-inch oval board for hanging. It is hard to imagine a more finely and accurately painted trout model.

A beautiful Bufflehead by award winning New Jersey carver Clarence Fenimore. Graceful lines and exquisite paint. Rigged with lead plate on bottom and signed by the artist.

An outstanding rainbow trout carving by this highly regarded artist. The drift wood mount to which it is attached is 21” and the fish itself is 18.5”. This heirloom quality carving is perfect for commemorating a favorite catch or memorable trip.

Flying Woodcock and Snipe- wall mounts. These two lovely bird seems frozen in time. Ken’s wall-mounted birds are among the most dynamic of his carvings. 9” beak to tail and 10.5 inches wing tip to wing tip. Each decoy is $175

In the order pictured - An 8” brook trout decoy from Michigan’s Gerald Finch (1932-2015), in excellent original condition, signed and looking for a new owner. ($225). A equally lovely and impressive Kozak brook trout of 12” ($195). The third decoy is by Harry Phillips, an 8.5” brook trout beautifully painted and in excellent original condition. ($180). This Celtic inspired duo represents the salmon/trout native to Ireland, Scotland and other Celtic areas. They are folk art carvings rather than natural replicas of actual fish but they are lovely and representative of these beautiful native fish. Each fish is a bit over 14 inches long.

These two colorful Bobwhites are new from the shop of Ken Kirby in 2021, made for Swift River Fly Fishing.

This 1993 Sanderling decoy is by a highly respected Mattapoisett, MA artist. His decoys have won multiple New England awards and this bird is representative of his fine work. It is nicely mounted a a piece of cedar driftwood.

Some fine Brook, Rainbow and Cutthroat Trout decoys from Pennsylvania carver Ralph Hocker. Traditional style and exquisite painting. The Brook and Rainbow trout are each 10 inches while the rare Greenback Cutthroat is only 5.5 inches and sells at $150. The Brown trout has been sold.

A large relief carving of the rare (possibly extinct) Alford Cutthroat by decoy artist Carl Christiansen of MN. Possible model of actual fish. One of a kind. Signed and named on back by Christiansen.

A fine 9 inch Golden Trout decoy from Carl Christiansen in excellent, original condition.

This 12 inch decoy is in the style of the famed Massachustts carver Joe Lincoln of Accord (Hingham). It is nicely carved and painted by this highly respected octagenarion who passed away in 2019, and quite true to the original. It is signed and finger-printed as are all of Rhodes' recent pieces.

Eight fine Carl Christiansen decoys pictured in order - Arctic char, Brook Trout, Chain Pickerel, Dogfish, Hornynose Chub, Mooneye, Northern Pike, and Sturgeon. Each six inches and in new condition with original labeled box. $96 each.

Seidel is a highly accomplished carver from the Virginia Beach area who teaches and carves at two area museums. The canvas back is listed at $225. The yellowlegs is an older but excellent Greater Yellowlegs with iron beak, tack eyes and metal stand. Paint in excellent condition with nice patina. It is listed at $175.

The first of these fine decoys is by Michigan carver Kozak. It is 7.5 inches and nicely painted in an early classic style ($90).

This large shorebird is highly suggestive of the work of the Folger family of Nantucket, well known 19th century market gunners and decoy carvers. This hunting style decoy is very well made but unsigned, with red glass eyes, black wings and russet colored body with barred feathers.
